Otto share engaging debut EP ‘Still Picture You’

Detroit band Otto have shared their debut EP Still Picture You. Following up an engaging set of singles earlier this year, this EP provides earnest, heartfelt lyricism and vibrant soundscapes that put a refreshingly modern twist on 80’s-influenced synth pop.

The EP opens with “When I Really Saw You”, a track that sets the tone for the project’s vibrant, energetic sound. Containing electrifying instrumentation centred around vital guitars and spacey synths, the song provides dynamic songwriting with a more upbeat intro followed by minimalistic verses that build into an explosive and colorful hook. This track transitions smoothly into “Good Fight”, which opens with shimmering synth lines before nostalgic guitars and driving drums create an engaging rhythm.

“Stop Time” provides an EP highlight with addictive instrumentation that brings in elements of electronica through its dance-influenced drum patterns and retro synths. Featuring sharply-crafted vocal lines that make the listener want to keep re-winding, this track showcases the band’s ability to craft dynamic tracks that flirt with different genres. Lastly, the project closes out with the expansive “If You Know”, which brings in an immersive, layered soundscape through its usage of dream-like synths that build atop airy percussion.

Overall, Still Picture You’s vivid instrumentation and candid, heartfelt lyrics make for a captivating listen. Drawing the listener into its colorful, atmospheric synth-pop ambiance across 5 tracks, the EP makes for a vibrant introduction to the Detroit act.
